Good makeup reflexes are not necessarily the same at 50 as they are at 20. Here are the pitfalls to avoid.

1. Concealer too covering

So yes, we do not want to look tired but we must not fall into the trap of overbidding, especially after fifty. “ The concealer must be chosen with care to camouflage dark circles without tiring or marking the eyes, ” explains Valérie Mercier. The ideal? Opt for a hydrating formula, enriched with hyaluronic acid , and slightly satiny.

2. Weigh down the gaze

If, as a teenager, we were a fan of black pencil which gave us a mysterious air, at 50, we forget! Applied in the mucous membrane of the eye or at the level of the eyelashes, the black pencil tends to weigh down and harden the eyes. During the day, it can also slip into fine lines . But don’t panic if you want to emphasize your eyes, it’s quite possible but you have to opt for a softer result. Instead, we choose a brown, gray or taupe shade. “ And above all, we forget the Khôl ”, insists the expert, “ real enemy of our gaze when we are no longer in our twenties ”.

3. Mascara again and again

Another mistake, overdoing mascara . This tends to “fill the eye”, notes Valérie Mercier. Apply a light layer to open and wake up the eyes. And we avoid applying it to the lower lashes. And if really, we can’t do without a stroke of mascara on the lower lashes, we opt for a softer color such as brown. This will prevent the facial features from being too hard.

4. The mouth is too dull

For a glamorous look, nothing like a well-made-up mouth, but under certain conditions. You should know that matte lipsticks tend to make lips appear thinner and to mark fine lines. We prefer a moisturizing, slightly satin texture. As for the nuances, exit the red or the burgundy. Soft colors are our friends, like pink or coral for example. Perfect for summer.

5. Incorrectly applied bronzer

The sun is back but you haven’t had the chance to expose yourself … So neither one nor two, you rush on your bronzer . Problem? It can quickly make the face appear older if not properly applied. To make sure you don’t miss it, apply a touch of pink or peach blush to the cheekbones, moving up slightly towards the temples. “ The ideal is to choose a liquid blush, no mistake possible ”, according to Valérie Mercier. Apply with a brush or fingertips!
